01Is it for you?
Is Grand Hotel Residencia right for your stay?
- Why choose it
- The quiet and the garden. The hotel is a cluster of two-storey villas in Spanish-colonial style, their interiors by Alberto Pinto, set around a palm garden and a heated saltwater pool, and every room has a balcony or terrace over the garden or the pool. The dunes and the beach of Maspalomas are about five minutes' walk away, by the hotel's own reckoning.
- Who it suits
- Couples, travellers on their own and anyone looking for peace and quiet — the hotel's own words for whom it is made — and golfers: the Maspalomas and Meloneras courses are about five minutes' drive, and the hotel books the tee times. Families are welcome, but the children's club, the children's pool and the playground are at the sister hotel, Seaside Palm Beach, about five minutes' walk away.
- What to consider
- There is one restaurant, a pool bar for lunch and a piano bar; for variety, dinner can be taken at Seaside Palm Beach, in its main restaurant at no extra charge or at Il Giardino and La Bodega for a supplement, subject to availability. The hotel usually asks for a stay of a week in high season. The rooms look over the garden, the pool or, from some, the side of the dunes; the hotel describes none as a sea view.
02The hotel
The hotel and its rooms
The Grand Hotel Residencia is built as a cluster of two-storey villas in Spanish-colonial style around a palm garden in the oasis of Maspalomas, at the southern tip of Gran Canaria. The interiors are by the Paris designer Alberto Pinto — teak furniture, hand-painted Portuguese tiles, warm colours — and every room opens onto a balcony or a terrace over the garden or the pool. The Canary Islands tourism register classes it Cinco Estrellas Gran Lujo, the top hotel category on the islands.
The dunes and the beach of Maspalomas are a few minutes’ walk away, and the sister hotel, Seaside Palm Beach, is closer still, with its restaurants, tennis court and children’s club open to the Residencia’s guests.
Rooms and suites
Every room and suite is in one of the two-storey villas, on the ground or the first floor, with a screened balcony or terrace. The Standard rooms (about 33 m²) look over the garden by the entrance; the Superior rooms (37 m²) over the garden, some on the side of the dunes; the Deluxe rooms, the same size, over the pool. The Superior and Deluxe bathrooms have whirlpool baths and two basins.
For more space there are seventeen Junior Suites of about 50 m², for up to three, and three Master Suites of 66 m² on the ground floor, for up to four, one of them with a second bedroom. The single Presidential Suite, 78 m², has its own garden of about 400 m² with a hot tub and a fire pit, and connects to a Junior Suite for a second bedroom. Two rooms are adapted for wheelchair users, and some rooms connect.
Tell us which outlook matters — garden, pool or dunes — and whether you need connecting rooms or step-free access, and we confirm it with the hotel for your dates before anything is booked.
On the practical side: the hotel usually asks for a stay of a week in high season; pets are not allowed; parking is free, by valet. Families have cots and a small baby pool here, and the children’s club and pool at Seaside Palm Beach.
At the hotel
Facilities
- A saltwater main pool among the palms, heated all year, and a small pool for babies
- A heated saltwater wellness pool with underwater jets, massage seats and air-jet beds, and aqua gym five times a week
- The spa: Finnish sauna, steam bath, salt cave, ice fountain, multi-sensory showers, a cold plunge pool and seven treatment rooms, with Natura Bissé; the wellness pool, saunas and salt cave are free to guests, treatments are charged
- An outdoor gym with Technogym equipment on a terrace over the wellness pool, personal trainers, physiotherapy and 24-hour medical assistance
- A bridge salon; at Seaside Palm Beach, five minutes' walk, a floodlit tennis court, yoga and tai chi
Eating and drinking
The restaurant cooks Canarian dishes and international ones under Wolfgang Grobauer, the executive chef, with Gran Canarian and other wines chosen by its sommelier. It has a dining room of Portuguese tiles and a terrace over the pool, with the dunes and the island’s mountains in view; breakfast is a buffet on that terrace, dinner is à la carte, and on Wednesdays and Sundays there is a barbecue buffet. There are no table reservations — you come in when you like. At lunch the Pool Bar serves tapas, snacks and, in the afternoon, cakes and its own waffles; in the evening the Piano Bar, below the restaurant terrace, has live music and cocktails. Dinner can also be taken at the sister hotel, Seaside Palm Beach — its main restaurant at no extra charge, the Italian Il Giardino or the tapas restaurant La Bodega for a supplement — booked at reception and subject to availability. Gentlemen wear long trousers and closed shoes at dinner.
