Where to stay on the Amalfi Coast

On the Amalfi Coast the town is the first choice and the hotel the second: Positano for the sea and the town at the door, Ravello for height and gardens, Amalfi for the harbour in the middle of the coast, or a cliff of your own at Conca dei Marini. Avelia matches you with the base and the hotel that fit how you travel, for a week of its own or after Rome.

01Where to stay

Choose the base, then the hotel

Positano

  • The pool terrace in sun: a long pool lined with a mosaic of blue, turquoise and violet shapes, white parasols among potted lemon trees on one side, the hotel's red-and-white arcades and iron balconies on the other, the open sea beyond

    Le Sirenuse

The family villa in the middle of Positano, above the church of Santa Maria Assunta and the beach, with a terrace pool and La Sponda's candlelit dinners.

Suits Couples and families who want to be in the town rather than looking at it: dinner on foot, the beach below, the boats at the landing. Il San Pietro, east of the town, has its own beach and a headland's quiet; Caruso, in Ravello, has the height and the gardens.

    Positano

  • The whole headland from the air over the sea: the hotel's terraces and pool at the top of the promontory, the green tennis court on a shelf halfway down, terraced gardens, the coast road's arched viaduct top left, the beach club at the foot of the rock with ro

    Il San Pietro

A hotel cut into the cliff east of Positano, with its own beach at the foot of the rock, a lift through the rock to reach it, a pool and a tennis court between the rock and the pebbles.

Suits Couples, and families with children of ten and over, who want to swim from the hotel and have Positano a few minutes away by its shuttle. Caruso, in Ravello, is the other way round: height, quiet and gardens, the sea a drive or a boat away, and no minimum age.

    Positano

Conca dei Marini

  • The monastery in early sun on the top of a sheer limestone cliff, a yellow domed wing at one end of its long pale front, the wooded slope falling away beneath it and the calm sea below a pink haze

    Monastero Santa Rosa

A 17th-century monastery on the cliff at Conca dei Marini: 20 rooms and suites, four levels of gardens down to a heated infinity pool, and a spa in the old vaults.

Suits Couples, honeymoons and anniversaries who want the quiet of a house of twenty rooms, and the gardens, the pool and the spa more than a town at the door. Caruso, up the hill in Ravello, is the larger garden house; Il San Pietro, at Positano, puts the sea at the foot of a lift.

    Conca dei Marini

Amalfi

  • The hotel's white villa among green trees, its name in script across the top of the façade and a wrought-iron pergola on the roof, seen past a spray of magenta bougainvillea and pink oleander under a blue sky

    Santa Caterina

A family-run hotel on the cliff at the edge of Amalfi, its gardens on terraces down to a beach club, a salt-water pool and the sea.

Suits Families who want connecting rooms, the sea and a town within reach, and couples on a honeymoon, for whom the hotel keeps two special suites. Caruso, in Ravello, is higher and quieter, the sea a drive away; Il San Pietro, outside Positano, has a beach of its own and no town at the door.

    Amalfi

Ravello

  • The pool's infinity edge at first light, seen as a sheet of pale water against the sea: the dark ridge of the coast falling to a headland at left, the mountains across the gulf in haze, a peach-and-grey sky, one swallow over the edge with its reflection in the

    Caruso

An 11th-century palace at the top of Ravello, 350 metres above the sea, with a heated infinity pool, frescoed salons and gardens on terraces.

Suits Families of any age — the hotel calls itself family-friendly, with connecting rooms and suites, babysitting and a pool it says is suitable for children — and anyone who wants the view and the gardens more than the water. Il San Pietro, at Positano, is the other way round: the sea at the foot of a lift, the town a shuttle away, children from ten.

03Arranging a stay

How we arrange a stay in Amalfi Coast

A selection of hotels we recommend on the Amalfi Coast. We can also arrange other properties to suit your preferences and travel plans.

A stay on the Amalfi Coast is best from one hotel, in Positano, Conca dei Marini, Amalfi or Ravello, as a week of its own or the coast nights of a journey from Rome. Before any payment, we send a written proposal with a quoted trip price and what it includes — such as your room, the transfer from Naples airport or station by car or by car and boat, Capri by private boat, and Pompeii and Herculaneum with a guide — and refine it with you. Once you approve the proposal and complete the agreed booking requirements, we confirm your arrangements. We coordinate the details and support you while you travel.

Peace of mind

Financially protected. When your stay is part of a package trip, your payments are covered against our insolvency by a guarantee with AXA. A hotel booked on its own is not a package. Plan with peace of mind
