Dinner at Akelarre with no drive back to town afterwards, and a room with its own furnished terrace over the Bay of Biscay.
Who it suits
Couples, and travellers who come to San Sebastián to eat and want a quiet house on the coast to come back to rather than a hotel in the middle of town.
What to consider
Evenings in the old town mean a car or a taxi. The hotel is not recommended for children under 14, and the restaurant closes from just before Christmas to late February.

Rooms and suites
Every room looks out to sea and has a furnished terrace and a sitting area
with sofas. The Superior Horizon rooms have king-size beds, a large
dressing room and a bathroom with a bath and a separate rain shower. The
Panoramic Junior Suites add large bay windows, a lounge area and a desk;
not every one has a bath, so tell us if you want one. The AKELARRE Ocean
Suites are the top category: a spacious living area, a double dressing
room, a freestanding bath facing the bay window, and a small heated plunge
pool of their own, indoors and out.
If a particular outlook or bed configuration matters to you, tell us when
you enquire and we will confirm it with the hotel for your dates before
anything is booked.
On the practical side: room service runs around the clock, with hot
dishes, snacks and breakfast. San Sebastián’s airport is about 25 minutes
away by car, and Bilbao, Biarritz and Pamplona about an hour, so we arrange
a private transfer. One Panoramic Junior Suite is designed to accessibility
standards: tell us if you need it and we will confirm it for your dates.
Pets are not accepted, assistance dogs apart.

Eating and drinking
Akelarre is Pedro Subijana’s restaurant, in the same house: one of the
founders of the New Basque Cuisine, he leads its kitchen. It serves tasting
menus, whose dishes can be combined with the staff’s advice, and a cellar of
more than 700 wines, in a dining room over the sea. It does not open every
day: it rests early in the week. For a group, the Aula de cocina gives a
master class before the meal, on request. Espazio Oteiza,
the second restaurant, opens every day for lunch, dinner and snacks, in a
bright lounge or on terraces over the sea, and in summer its cocktail bar
serves on the terraces from 4 pm until sunset.
03Location
Where Hotel Akelarre is
Hotel Akelarre stands at Paseo Padre Orkolaga 56, in Igeldo, on the
western slopes of Monte Igeldo, about ten minutes by car from the
centre of San Sebastián. Its bay windows and terraces look out over the Bay
of Biscay, along the coast to the harbours of Orio and Getaria. The map
shows it with the summit of Monte Igeldo, the beaches of Ondarreta and La
Concha, and the Parte Vieja. For the city itself, see our
San Sebastián page and
