01Is it for you?

Is Palacio del Bailío right for your stay?

Why choose it
A palace you live in rather than visit: frescoes kept in its historic suites, courtyards and fruit gardens, and the Roman remains under the courtyard floor; and, for a house in the old town, a spa and an outdoor pool besides.
Who it suits
Couples who want a historic house with a spa and a pool to come back to, and families, in Junior Suites that take up to four.
What to consider
It stands in the north of the old town, about a kilometre from the Mezquita-Catedral, not beside it. The rooms differ as the palace does, from a single of 15 m² to suites of up to 75 m², so the category matters.

02The hotel

The hotel and its rooms

The hotel occupies part of the Casa del Bailío, the town house of a branch of the Fernández de Córdoba family, built and rebuilt between the 16th and the 18th centuries around its courtyards. The house is protected as a monument, a Bien de Interés Cultural, and Andalusia’s tourism register files the hotel under the specialty it keeps for hotels in protected historic buildings.

In the middle of the last century the house’s owner, the archaeologist Rafael Castejón, dug a cellar under its baroque courtyard and found a Roman house, a domus of the 1st century AD. When the palace became a hotel, the cellar’s ceiling was replaced with glass, so that the remains can be seen from the courtyard above.

For the city around it, see our Córdoba page, and where to stay in Córdoba for our hotels compared side by side.

Rooms and suites

The rooms and suites are spread through the palace’s buildings, and the hotel has newly redesigned every one, in natural wood, soft textile panels and warm tones around the old architecture. The Dreamer’s rooms, of 22 m², take a king or queen bed or two singles; the Dreamer’s Palace rooms, the same size, are in the central building, the palace itself. The Deluxe rooms, of 25 m², keep vaulted ceilings or stone arches from the old palace, and the Deluxe Garden View rooms, from 25 m², look over the Patio de los Naranjos. The Single Dreamer’s is the house’s room for one: 15 m², with a double bed of 160 cm.

The Junior Suites, of up to 75 m², are the most spacious, with reading corners and generous bathrooms with a bath and a shower, and take up to four. The Junior Suites Historic, of 40 to 50 m², keep historic frescoes and original ornament, and so does the Presidential Suite Gran Capitán, of 52 m², with its sleeping and living areas apart, a dressing room and a butler.

If a particular room, the garden outlook or a fresco matters to you, tell us when you enquire and we will confirm it with the hotel for your dates before anything is booked.

On the practical side: private parking at the hotel is limited, with a charging point for electric cars; room service runs around the clock; the hotel is accessible for guests with reduced mobility; and dogs are welcome.
