A house of patios and fountains in the middle of the Judería, opposite the Alcázar and a short walk from the Mezquita-Catedral, with a pool the hotel keeps open all year.
Who it suits
Couples, and anyone in Córdoba for its history, who would rather walk to the Mezquita-Catedral, the Alcázar and the Synagogue than be driven to them.
What to consider
Wellness here is a pool, a four-machine fitness room and massages on request, not a spa. The rooms are spread along winding corridors and patios, so the way to yours may be a walk.
02The hotel
The hotel and its rooms
Las Casas de la Judería is five old houses joined into one hotel on Calle
Tomás Conde, in the heart of the Judería. The main house is the one the hotel
calls the Casa de las Pavas, after the two turkeys — pavas — that hold up
the coat of arms over its façade. Inside, the houses open into one another
through their patios, Mudéjar and Renaissance, with fountains, galleries and
planted beds, and the remains uncovered during the works, some of them Roman,
have been kept for guests to see.
The hotel says no two of its bedrooms are alike, and many have headboards
of Cordobán, the tooled and painted leather the city has worked for
centuries. The Basic is the standard room, and the Classic rooms
are bright and spacious; the Classic Whirlpool adds a hydromassage bath
with a separate shower. The
Deluxe rooms are larger, finished in carved wood, with a hydromassage
bath and a separate shower; the hotel also sells them as Deluxe Relax
and Deluxe Romantic, the same rooms with extra touches laid on.
Three rooms have more to them. The Penthouse Catedral is light and
high-ceilinged, with a private terrace looking to the Mezquita-Catedral,
where breakfast can be served. The Penthouse Patios has a private
terrace over two of the patios. The Junior Suite Patios looks onto the
patios too, with a small sitting area in the room and two bathrooms, one
with a shower, the other with a hydromassage bath and a separate shower.
On the practical side: the hotel has parking, for a daily charge, takes
pets and has cots, each for a supplement. It runs
transfers from Córdoba’s AVE station, and we arrange the journey on from
there. The hotel’s site describes no adapted room; if step-free access
matters to you, say so when you enquire, and we will check it with the
hotel for your dates before anything is booked.
At the hotel
Facilities
A swimming pool, which the hotel keeps open all year
Terraces with views over the rooftops to the Mezquita-Catedral
A fitness room with four machines: a bike, an elliptical trainer, a multi-gym and a rowing machine
Relaxing massages, on request and booked ahead
Eating and drinking
Breakfast is a buffet. Through the day the hotel serves a short menu in its
Mudéjar patio, beside the fountain: acorn-fed Iberian ham and loin,
Córdoba’s salmorejo, gazpacho, salads and sandwiches. There is a terrace
bar-café and an honesty bar, and room service from late morning into the
evening. We have not confirmed a restaurant of the hotel’s own; the Judería
has a great many within a few minutes’ walk, and we book tables.
03Location
Where Las Casas de la Judería is
Las Casas de la Judería stands on Calle Tomás Conde in the Judería, the
old Jewish quarter, inside the Historic Centre of Córdoba that UNESCO lists
as World Heritage. The map shows it with what is around it: the Alcázar de
los Reyes Cristianos, which the hotel faces, the Synagogue on Calle Judíos,
the Mezquita-Catedral to the east, and the Roman Bridge over the
Guadalquivir. For the city itself, see our
Córdoba page.
