01Is it for you?

Is Cotton House right for your stay?

Why choose it
The house itself. The library, the painted ceilings and the parquet of the cotton guild's old headquarters have been restored, and a tailor's workshop keeps its textile past alive.
Who it suits
Couples and city travellers who want Passeig de Gràcia, the Palau de la Música and the Gothic Quarter on foot, and a restored 19th-century house to come back to.
What to consider
It is a city house, not a resort: wellness is a gym and treatment rooms, and La Barceloneta beach is 2.6 km away, by the hotel's own figure.

02The hotel

The hotel and its rooms

The house was designed by Elies Rogent for a Barcelona cotton businessman, and later became the House of Cotton, the headquarters of the cotton producers’ guild. Its architect then, Rubió i Tudurí, kept the Neoclassical façade and added four floors of offices and laboratories, joined by a hanging spiral staircase. The restoration that made it a hotel, by the designer Lázaro Rosa-Violán, kept that staircase and the large carriage doors, and brought back the building’s original features.

Rooms and suites

The 78 rooms come in four types. The Panamá rooms are the compact ones, at 23 m²: interior rooms, away from the street, which the hotel describes as extremely quiet. The Madras rooms (24 m²) face outward, over the city centre, with a queen, a king or two single beds. The Cotton rooms (28 m²) have a balcony over a Barcelona courtyard and a bathroom with both bath and shower. The Egyptian rooms are larger again, with a sitting area and a sofa bed that takes a third guest; some have a terrace over the city or the courtyard.

The suites keep the most of the original house. Damasco and Otomán have restored painted ceilings and balconies over the city; Tafetán, 47 m², looks over the Gran Via and has a separate living room; and Vichy is a 90 m² duplex on the fifth and sixth floors, with two living areas and a private terrace beside the rooftop pool — it can be connected to another double room, which suits a family. Every room has Egyptian cotton sheets and is made up twice a day.

On the practical side: the hotel lists a Panamá room adapted for guests with reduced mobility, with a roll-in shower, and room service comes from Batuar. If a particular outlook, bed configuration or step-free access matters to you, tell us when you enquire and we will confirm it with the hotel for your dates before anything is booked.

05Planning

Planning a stay with Avelia

Cotton House Hotel can be the whole of a stay in Barcelona, or the Barcelona nights of a longer journey through Spain. Before any payment, we send a written proposal with a quoted trip price and what it includes — such as your room, a chauffeur from the airport, the Sagrada Família and the Gothic Quarter with a guide, and a concert at the Palau de la Música — and refine it with you. Once you approve the proposal and complete the agreed booking requirements, we confirm your arrangements. We coordinate the details and support you while you travel.

How we choose hotels. For their size and character before their brand, and for how they suit the way you travel. No hotel is on our list simply because it sits on a preferred-partner programme. More in our story

Peace of mind

Financially protected. When your stay is part of a package trip, your payments are covered against our insolvency by a guarantee with AXA. A hotel booked on its own is not a package. Plan with peace of mind

Experiences we can arrange

  • Private guided visits to the Sagrada Família, Casa Batlló and the Gothic Quarter, on request
  • Restaurant reservations across Barcelona, and a concert at the Palau de la Música
  • A chauffeur from the airport, and the high-speed train onward where it is the better choice
  • Days out to Montserrat, the Penedès, or Figueres and Girona, subject to availability
