02The hotel
Bulgari Hotel Roma occupies the rationalist building that Vittorio Ballio Morpurgo designed on the north side of Piazza Augusto Imperatore: its south front faces the Mausoleum of Augustus across the square, with a Latin inscription in bas-relief along it. Antonio Citterio and Patricia Viel, the architects behind all of Bulgari’s hotels, restored it, keeping the stone and the clean lines outside and softening them within with coloured marble, mosaic roundels and Murano glass.
Roma Capitale’s register counts 114 rooms; the hotel’s own pages give 106 rooms and suites. Every one is dressed in one of four colour palettes drawn from Rome, with a bathroom in coloured marble, so the choice is mostly one of size and side. The rooms run from the Superior Rooms, 33 m², through the Deluxe Rooms, 37 m², to the Premium Rooms, 49 m²; the Junior Suites, 51 m², are the first of the suites. Above them come the Superior Suites (58 m²), the Deluxe Suites and the Serpenti Suite (81 m²) and the two Premium Suites (133 m²), and at the top the Bulgari Suite, 300 m² on the third floor, with ten windows over the Mausoleum of Augustus and a dining room and kitchen of its own; it can be joined to the suites beside it.
Tell us when you enquire which side of the building you would like, which bed arrangement and whether step-free access matters, and we confirm it with the hotel for your dates before anything is booked. If children are travelling, we confirm the hotel’s children’s policy for your group at the same time.
On the practical side: the hotel has valet parking. Fiumicino is 30 to 45 minutes away by car and Ciampino about 45, by the hotel’s reckoning, and Termini about a quarter of an hour; we arrange the transfer.
Il Ristorante – Niko Romito is on the fifth floor, with a large terrace over the Mausoleum of Augustus: Niko Romito’s menu takes the classic Italian recipes back to their essentials, and Gabriele Gervasi, the resident head chef, cooks it. The Bulgari Bar, its black marble counter lit by Murano glass, has an outside bar and two terraces, over Via di Ripetta and over the piazza, and La Terrazza on the roof serves the bar’s menu with the city around it, from Villa Medici and Trinità dei Monti to the Tiber and the Janiculum. On the ground floor, Il Caffè, Romito’s café, opens under the piazza’s porticoes for coffee, a Roman lunch or Sunday brunch; the Lobby Lounge serves afternoon tea with Romito’s pastries; and the Champagne Bar is a small room painted as a Roman garden. We reserve the tables.
03Location
Bulgari Hotel Roma stands at 10 Piazza Augusto Imperatore, in the Campo Marzio rione, on the north side of the square that surrounds the Mausoleum of Augustus, with the Ara Pacis on its river side. By a pedestrian route it is under ten minutes’ walk to Piazza di Spagna and the Spanish Steps or to Piazza del Popolo, and about a quarter of an hour to the Pantheon or the Trevi Fountain — approximate times. The map shows it with what is around it: the Mausoleum across the square, Piazza del Popolo to the north, the Spanish Steps to the east, the Pantheon to the south and Castel Sant’Angelo across the Tiber. Hotel de Russie, another Rome hotel we feature, is a few minutes’ walk away on Via del Babuino, and Hotel Eden is on the hill above the Spanish Steps. For the city itself, see our Rome page.

05Planning
Bulgari Hotel Roma can be the whole of a stay in Rome, or the Rome nights of a journey on to the Amalfi Coast. Before any payment, we send a written proposal with a quoted trip price and what it includes — such as your room, the transfer from Fiumicino or Ciampino, the Vatican Museums or the Colosseum with a guide, and reservations at Il Ristorante – Niko Romito — and refine it with you. Once you approve the proposal and complete the agreed booking requirements, we confirm your arrangements. We coordinate the details and support you while you travel.
