- Couples who would rather be somewhere than near everything, and who want the sea straight off the rock rather than a beach.
- What to consider
- It is a headland, not a village: there is nowhere to walk to, and everything beyond the gate is a drive. The hotel is open from mid-March to mid-November only, and because the rooms are cut into a monument they differ widely from one another — the category matters more here than it does elsewhere.

The hotel and its rooms
Cap Rocat was built to watch over the approach to Palma and never used for the purpose it was built for. It is a listed National Monument in a protected natural area, and the restoration that made it a hotel — by the architect Antonio Obrador — has been recognised by Europa Nostra, Hispania Nostra and the Fortress Study Group.
The rooms are among the courtyards, watchtowers and battlements, several of them cut into the rock itself. The spa is excavated twelve metres below ground; above it the terrace looks across the bay to Palma, and the sea is reached off the rock rather than across sand.

Rooms and suites
Thirty-one rooms in five categories, and the categories are not a hierarchy so much as five different ideas. Double Fortaleza rooms sit behind the main gate and the moat, with vaulted ceilings, local stone floors, a separate bath and shower and a furnished terrace. The Sentinels are dug out of the rock at the old gun positions, each with two bathrooms, a small private pool and terraces at the edge of the cliff. Suite Cap Rocat is set into the fortress embrasures with terraces on three levels and a gazebo; Suite El Cabo has three terraces, a private pool and a gazebo looking over the bay; and the Suite del Mar are small Mallorcan-style houses in a private garden, each with its own overflow pool and a large terrace.
On the practical side: the hotel is open from mid-March to mid-November, and its two restaurants take reservations with children only over 15.

Eating and drinking
La Fortaleza is the hotel’s restaurant, listed in the MICHELIN Guide and holding two Repsol Suns, and the Sea Club sits down at the water. There is nowhere else within walking distance, so both matter more here than they would in town.
03Location
Where Cap Rocat is
Cap Rocat stands alone on the Cap Enderrocat headland, on the far side of the Bay of Palma from the city, inside its own reserve. There is nothing at the gate — everything beyond it is a drive, which is either the point of the place or the reason not to come.
