The best time to visit Barcelona is from April to June, and in September and October: warm days for walking the city and eating outside, with Sant Jordi in April and La Mercè in September. July and August are the beach months, at 28°C (82°F) and more; winter is mild, and the quietest time in the city’s hotels. Here is the year month by month, and the season for each kind of trip.
The year
Spring and autumn bring the easiest weather; summer is the beach season, and winter is mild and quiet.
The city at its best: average highs of 18°C (64°F) in April, 21°C (70°F) in May and 25°C (77°F) in June, with rain on four or five days a month.

Barcelona’s hotels are busy for most of the year: in 2025 their rooms were 83 to 86% full in every month from April to October, and least full in January and December, at 64%.
Spring
From April to June the days lengthen and warm towards summer, and the city keeps two of its best-loved feast days.
April is mild, at about 18°C (64°F), and on the 23rd the city keeps Sant Jordi, its day of books and roses, when Casa Batlló hangs its façade with roses for three days. May is warmer, at 21°C (70°F), and June, at 25°C (77°F), brings the first beach days and the Revetlla de Sant Joan on the night of the 23rd.
We reserve the Gaudí buildings with the hotel, as soon as your dates are fixed. The quietest visits are the houses’ own: Casa Batlló early in the morning, with few others in the house, and La Pedrera’s Premium visit, for a small group, which opens parts of the house the general visit does not. The city’s tourist board marks the Maresme’s peas in March and April and the Barcelona prawn from May to July, and a day in the Penedès, 50 km away, ends with a private cava tasting, on request.

Summer
July is the driest month of the year and August the warmest, and the city lives by the sea.
In July and August the average high is 28–29°C (82–84°F) and the nights stay near 20°C (68°F). More than four kilometres of sand run from Sant Sebastià beach to the Fòrum, so the day can start in the old town and end by the water: a private boat with a skipper from the Port Olímpic in the evening, with cava on board, or a half or a whole day along the coves of the Costa Brava, with a picnic on board, both on request. In mid-August Gràcia holds its Festa Major, when the neighbours dress their streets.
For the hottest hours, each of these three hotels has a pool: W Barcelona two, on decks over the sea, Hotel Arts two in its gardens, open in summer, and Cotton House one on the roof. On the 26th floor of W Barcelona, NOXE has a cocktail lounge above the city. In the evenings we book seats for concerts and the theatre, and dinner outside.

Autumn is warm and still busy; winter is mild, and the quietest time of the year.
September is still summer by day, at 26°C (79°F), and brings La Mercè; October, at 22°C (72°F), is the wettest month of the year, with rain on about six days. Neither is quiet: in 2025 the city’s hotels were as full in September and October as in July and August, so book autumn as early as you would book summer.
It is a good season for museums and the table. The Museu Picasso offers private tours of about an hour outside its opening hours, which we can request for you, subject to its availability, and a guide can take you through the old town’s galleries. The tourist board’s wild-mushroom season runs from September to November, a good time for a morning at the Boqueria with a chef, on request. For a slower day, Hotel Alma’s spa, with its heated indoor pool, is included for its guests, and W Barcelona’s AWAY Spa has an adults-only pool. From November to March the days are cool, with highs of 14–17°C (57–63°F), and December and January are the least busy months of the year in the hotels. Before Christmas the Fira de Santa Llúcia, the Christmas fair in front of the Cathedral, has been held since 1786; from January to March the tourist board marks the artichokes of El Prat. Winter suits long lunches: at Can Culleretes, which calls itself the oldest restaurant in Barcelona, open since 1786, or a cooking class with a chef, on request. The months that suit four kinds of trip best.
Food and wine: spring or autumn. The Maresme’s peas in March and April, the Barcelona prawn from May to July, wild mushrooms from September to November, and a winery in the Penedès or the Priorat, on request.
