The rooms and suites, all designed by the Paris studio Gilles & Boissier, divide by outlook. Superior rooms look into the quiet inner courtyard, and the hotel’s accessible rooms are among them. Deluxe Garden View rooms look over the hotel’s garden to the Paseo del Prado and the Neptune fountain, Deluxe Prado View rooms straight at the museum, and the Mandarin rooms, each with a seating area and some with a four-poster bed, over Plaza de la Lealtad.

The suites follow the same pattern. Junior Suites and Palm Court Suites, which have a separate living room and sleep three, face the courtyard; Premier Junior Suites, Park Suites and Prado Suites look out over the square or the museum. The Turret Suites sit in the building’s turrets, around a circular salon. For families and longer stays there are two-bedroom suites — among them a Family Suite over the courtyard, and the Mandarin and Ritz Suites, with terraces of their own — and a three-bedroom Grand Suite, up to the Presidential and Royal Suites.

On the practical side: there is valet parking for guests; in-room dining runs around the clock; babysitting can be arranged on request, subject to availability; and Madrid-Barajas airport is about 15 km away, around half an hour by car, so we arrange a private transfer.
