Mallorca's seasons, month by month, and how to choose yours.

The best time to visit Mallorca is spring, from March to May, and autumn, from September to November: the weather for walking in the mountains, the villages and Palma on foot. Summer is the season for the sea and the island’s busiest, with average highs of about 31°C (88°F) in July and August; winter is mild and quiet, and most hotels close. Here is the year month by month, with each season’s festivals and the best months for each kind of trip.
The year
Spring and autumn bring the easiest weather; summer brings the sea, the heat and the crowds, and winter mild days and closed hotels.
Mild and mostly dry: highs rise from about 18°C (64°F) in March to 24°C (75°F) in May, with rain on four or five days a month. Good for the Serra de Tramuntana.

Hot, dry and sunny, with almost no rain in July: the season for boat days, beaches and long evenings outdoors.
Busy: summer is the island's busiest season, and in July and August the average daytime high is about 31°C (88°F). We reserve boats and tables well ahead.
Daytime highs ease from about 28°C (82°F) in September to 19°C (66°F) in November, and the grapes are harvested. October is the wettest month, with rain on about six days.
EventsThe Festa des Vermar, Binissalem's grape-harvest festival, through September; the Evolution Mallorca International Film Festival in Palma, from late October to early November.
Mild and quiet, with daytime highs of about 15–16°C (59–61°F) and rain on five or six days a month: a calmer time for Palma, its museums and the mountain villages.
EventsPalma's Christmas markets from November to Epiphany; the Cant de la Sibil·la at Christmas midnight mass; and Sant Sebastià on 20 January, with bonfires the night before.

When the hotels open. Most of the island’s hotels open in spring and close after October. In 2025 Spain’s statistics institute, INE, counted 961 hotels open on Mallorca in September, 849 in October, 170 in November and 102 in January. Two of the hotels we feature close in winter: Cap Rocat from mid-November to mid-March, and Belmond La Residencia until it reopens in March.
Spring
The months for the mountains and the villages, as the island’s hotels open for the year.
March is mild, with highs of about 18°C (64°F), and the season is only beginning: in 2025 a little over a third of the island’s hotels were open. April is warmer, and by May nearly all of them are, with highs of about 24°C (75°F), the fewest rain days of the spring and long, sunny days. All three months have fewer visitors than the summer.
It is the time for the Serra de Tramuntana: a guided walk on the GR 221, the dry-stone route that passes through Deià, then a long lunch in the countryside, arranged on request. The gardens of Alfabia open from mid-February. In Palma, the International Boat Show fills the Moll Vell at the turn of April and May, from 28 April to 1 May in 2027.

Summer
June is warm; July and August are hot, dry and full, and the day is planned around the sea and the evening.
June brings highs of about 28°C (82°F); July and August average about 31°C (88°F), with nights near 18–19°C (64–66°F) and almost no rain. From late May to early August the sun sets after 9 pm, so a summer day here runs late: the mountains or Palma first thing, the middle of the day on the water or by a pool, and dinner outdoors after dark.
It is also the island’s busiest season. Its airport is at its busiest in summer, and from July to September more than nine in ten hotel rooms on Mallorca were taken in 2025, so we reserve the hotel, the boat and the tables you care about as soon as your dates are set. A private boat to the coves, or a wine tasting in the hills away from the beaches, can be arranged on request.

Autumn keeps the summer’s warmth into October, with the harvest; winter is mild, festive and quiet, and most of the island’s hotels close.
September is still summer, with highs of about 28°C (82°F), and still full: in 2025 its hotels were as busy as July’s. The harvest comes in, and Binissalem, the town that gives its name to the island’s oldest wine designation, holds its Festa des Vermar through the month, with a battle of grapes, a parade of floats and a wine fair; in Palma, the Nit de l’Art has been held every September since 1997. October is warm, about 24°C (75°F), and quieter, though it has the year’s heaviest rain, on about six days. The Evolution Mallorca International Film Festival comes to Palma at the turn of October and November. November is cooler and calm, and most hotels close during the month; on its third Thursday the town of Inca holds Dijous Bo, a fair of hundreds of the island’s products that began as a medieval market.
December to February are mild by day, with highs of about 15–16°C (59–61°F), and cool at night, about 4–5°C (39–41°F). In January only about one hotel in ten that opens in September is open, so we choose the hotel first. In January and February the almond trees flower across the island’s fields. Palma’s Christmas fair runs from November to Epiphany; on the night of 24 December churches across the island sing the Cant de la Sibil·la, which UNESCO has listed since 2010; and in mid-January come Sant Antoni, with its bonfires and dimonis in Sa Pobla, Manacor and Artà, and Palma’s Sant Sebastià on 20 January, with concerts and bonfires in its squares the night before.

The months that suit five kinds of trip best.
Architecture and design: spring or autumn. Days cool enough to walk Palma’s old town, La Seu and the Royal Palace of La Almudaina with a private guide, and the stone villages of the mountains. See our private architecture and cultural tours.
