The best time to visit Seville is spring, from March to May, and October into early November, once the summer heat has gone. Spring brings Holy Week and the Feria de Abril; July and August average 36°C (97°F) and belong to late evenings, and September is still hot; winter is mild and quiet. There is no wrong time, only the right one for you: here is the year month by month, with the festival dates for 2027.

The year
Seville through the year
Spring and autumn bring the easiest weather; summer brings real heat, and winter mild days and the wettest weeks of the year.
Summer June to August
Hot and dry, with almost no rain in July and August, and the longest, sunniest days of the year.
Heat: in July and August the middle of the day is too hot for sightseeing. See the city early and late, and keep midday for the hotel.
Autumn September to November
September is still hot; October and November are warm by day, with rain on about six days a month.

Winter December to February

Spring
Spring: Holy Week and the Feria
Spring holds the two weeks Seville is best known for: Holy Week’s processions and, a little over two weeks later in 2027, the Feria.
March is mild, and in 2027 the month of Holy Week. April is the wettest month of the spring, and brings the Feria. May is the warmest, driest and sunniest of the three, a step short of summer. Dozens of brotherhoods carry more than a hundred processional floats, most of their images Baroque sculptures of the 16th to 18th centuries, from their own churches to the Cathedral and back. Every procession follows the same last stretch, the Carrera Oficial, from the Plaza de la Campana along Sierpes and the Avenida de la Constitución into the Cathedral. La Madrugá, from midnight on Maundy Thursday to the morning of Good Friday, brings some of the most revered processions of the week.
The chairs and boxes along the Carrera Oficial are allocated by the city’s council of brotherhoods, not sold on the open market: in 2025 it drew lots for 1,097 temporary seats among 23,426 applications, and reselling them is prohibited. A balcony over a procession’s route elsewhere in the old town can sometimes be arranged, on request and subject to availability.

A week of casetas, the striped marquees where families, clubs and associations eat, drink and dance sevillanas, on a fairground of 450,000 square metres. It opens with the alumbrao, the night the fairground’s lights are switched on, and ends with fireworks by the Guadalquivir. The private casetas are for their members and guests; the public ones are open to visitors.

Summer
Summer: planning around the heat
June is warm. In July and August the average high is about 36°C (97°F) and the nights stay near 20°C (68°F), so the day changes shape to fit.
From mid-April to late August the sun sets after 9 pm, so a summer day in Seville runs late: the Alcázar or the Cathedral first thing, the hottest hours indoors or by a pool, and dinner outdoors after dark. July and August are also, with January, the months of lowest hotel occupancy.
Summer keeps its own calendar:
- Noches en los Jardines del Real Alcázar: concerts in the Alcázar’s gardens on summer evenings, from late June to mid-September.
- The Velá de Santiago y Santa Ana: Triana’s fair along the river on calle Betis, every year around 26 July, ending with fireworks.
- The Virgen de los Reyes: the procession of the city’s patroness around the Cathedral on the morning of 15 August.

Or split the summer. If the heat is a concern, pair Seville with somewhere cooler: the Basque Country, where San Sebastián’s average highs in July and August are about 22–23°C (71–73°F), or Mallorca, where Palma’s are about 31°C (88°F) and the sea is never far away.
Autumn and winter
Autumn brings back the easy weather, and the visitors with it. Winter is mild, and festive at Christmas.
September starts as summer and cools as it goes; in the sherry country around Jerez, a day trip from Seville, the grape harvest runs into the month. October is warm and full: it had the highest hotel occupancy of 2025, ahead of April and May, so book autumn as early as you would book spring. November is cooler, and a little quieter.
It is a good season for a trip built around food: a private tapas route with a food guide, an olive oil tasting at a hacienda outside the city, or a walk through Santa Cruz in the late-afternoon light, arranged on request. More in our Seville food and cuisine guide.
December is the most festive month: lights across the centre, the Feria del Belén, the nativity fair, close to the Cathedral, Christmas markets from Nervión to the Plaza del Duque and the Avenida de la Constitución, and a crafts fair in the Jardines de Cristina. On the afternoon of 5 January the Three Kings parade goes through the city. January is the least busy month of the year in the hotels; February is a little warmer, and busier.
With fewer visitors, winter suits the monuments: the Alcázar and the Cathedral with a private guide, or a walk through the city’s Mudéjar and Gothic architecture. More in things to do in Seville.

Food and wine: October or April. Warm days for long lunches, and evenings on a terrace. A private tapas route with a food guide or a chef, or a day at a sherry bodega in Jerez.
Architecture and history: March or November. Cooler days for long visits on foot. The Cathedral, the Alcázar and the Archivo de Indias are together a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and we arrange them with a private guide; in March 2027, plan around Holy Week unless you are coming for it.
